Chicago has been teetering between 5th and 4th most segregated city in the country for several years now. Its described in studies and reviews by civil rights projects of Harvard and University of illinois - chicago, just to name a few. If you decided to seek a realtor to buy a condo or home in Chicago, I guarantee you they will take your race into consideration equally to what's affordable to you in deciding what to show you and where to place you. If you are black, it does not matter that your range is upper middle class, you will be shuffled to black middle class areas rather than mixed areas or all white areas to cater to what they perceive your needs to be. So for all of you sitting around acting as if Chicago is some wonderful mixing pot of rainbow colored people living as blind opportunity presents itself, you are quite full of sh** and/or part of the reason its works that way because you don't know anything when everything works out for you.
Everything changes based on what part of Chicago you're in, from the quality and quantitities of retail stores, to health care facilities, to public transportation. And this is easily proven by trying to find the southside GAP/Old navy, american eagle, pompei, spa's, etc. So, I say this not to say that there aren't such areas in which several different ethnic groups live, but the quality depends on the ratio to say the preferred groups and even those mixed areas aren't nearly as abundant as the all white, all black, all asian, all hispanic, etc. areas.

Well, here's a map from 2000 that shows the racial breakup of the city: http://www.brookings.edu/urban/pubs/neighborhood/chicago.pdf
This was seven years ago and a lot has changed. The destruction of a lot of Chicago Housing Authority buildings has meant that a lot of blacks have been forced to move to other parts of the city, some to areas that were already heavily black, some that were mixed (white, black, etc.) some that probably didn't have very many blacks at all. In addition, people are moving into the city all the time.
You might also want to check the Chicago Reporter (http://www.chicagoreporter.com/), a local publication that focuses on issue of race and government. They may have a map on their website of the racial breakdown of Chicago neighborhoods, or you can write to them and ask if they have such a map.

You cant say only black people live on the south side and only white people live on the North side because that's NOT true.
There would be a neighborhood of one race and another neighborhood of another race. That is true. All of Chicago is mixed. We even have neighborhoods where there are black and white mixed, black and Mexican, Polish and Mexican, Chinese and white.
People need to open their eyes. The south side is so big and it wouldn't be filled with only Black people. Or the North side is only White people. There is even black and Arabian and Mexican families living in the suburbs. The suburbs isn't only filled with White people.

Chicago is a segregated city but their is also diversity. It just depends on neighborhoods rather than large areas. There are certain neighborhoods on the Southside where white people live (near the stockyards) and black people live in certain neighborhoods on the northside.

The last U.S. census was made in 2000. The University of Chgo. used this info to make the following map of some ethnic groups. I hope it's helpful:
