It's a negative if Miller gets hurt, but the Sabres needed a forward, and they also got a couple defensemen, and it wasn't a situation where Novotny can be brought along.

Not mad.. but certainly giving up a great backup for a 2nd round pick isn't a particularly smart deal. Especially when you are about to make a possible Stanley Cup run where the team will likely be playing 20+ games. Can Miller play 20 straight without getting injured or a having at least a game or two where he needs relief? Buffalo and it's fans better hope so. Everyone points to New Jersey and Brodeur and the fact that many teams go all the way with 1 goalie. Well that works just fine IF the goalie stays healthy AND if the starting goalie is used to playing 95% of the games for the team like Brodeur does.
I think it's a huge risk for the Sabres... worse case scenario... Miller is run by an opponent in game 1 of the first round of the playoffs (not an impossibility)... He goes out with a concussion for a month... safe to say that's it... game over Buffalo. Can Ty Conklin lead this team to the finals?
It's a very risky move trading Biron for a draft pick. If it was to free up cap space at the risk of killing your Stanley Cup chances then It's a case of a penny wise and a pound foolish.
Good luck Buffalo and protect Miller with your lives because you can be sure opponents are going to hit you where it hurts the most and where you are most vulnerable... in goal.

Not really mad about him getting traded. Buffalo starts him every 4 games. The Sabres gave him an opportunity to turn into a decent goalie (like Roloson going from backup in Minney to starter in Edmonton). The Sabres basically picked up a 2nd round pick of the flyers, which will be very high (most likely 31st or 32nd), which is like having another first round pick.
They pick up an unproven goalie in Conklin, who is a decent backup. If he doesn't play well, the Sabres could just go with Miller the entire way like Brodeur is played in New Jersey.
Watch out for the Flyers next year. They dumped Forsberg's Salary, got Biron, Hartnell and Nashville's first rounder. They also have around 20 million to spend, so they should be able to get some free agents, and see their young players (Richards, Carters, Williams, Hartnell, Biron) shine next year. They'll be the next Buffalo Sabres, but not as exciting...lol

THE SABRES HAD TO TRADE HIM! He is an unrestricted freee agent and they would lose him for absolutely nothing after this season, so it made all the sense in the world to get something for him. Also, if you don't trade him, you can't make any trades at the deadline, so your team isn't reinforced for the playoffs. LOOK AT what happened last year. If they had traded Marty, who we didn't need in the playoffs, for a couple of defensemen, then we are in the finals and maybe win it all. We didn't and we didn't get to the finals. It is a team game. Marty also deserves and desired a chance to be a starting goalie. I loved the guy, too, but it is almost cruel to keep him as a back up and hold him back.

I'm not too excited about it, we're def. screwed if Miller goes down for any long period of time. Not to mention, I'm not a huge Miller fan in the first place and sometimes feel more comfortable with Biron between the pipes. I think all this talk about freeing up cap space and whatever, could have waited till the offseason. Right now, we're getten ready to make a serious run at the cup, and I think a very good back-up to Miller is more important than the guys that they added. We allready know the guys we got can score, but what good is that if the guy in net is letting up 5, 6, 7 goals?

Yeah! Marty was a great goalie and this new guy Conklin, he definitely will not get the job done if the need arises for him to play. I think the Sabres made a bad descicison in trading him, although lately he hasnt been playing up to Buffalo standards.

Now Conklin is their backup. I really hope for his sake that Miller doesn't go down like Rollie did in game one of the finals last year.
The Sabres kinda had to move Biron to free up some cap room. They now have more size with Dainius Zubrus, who by the way has the coolest name in hockey.
Biron also asked to be traded--he want to be a started. He is a great player but right now the Sabres need size, not another backup goaltender.

No, I'm not mad and I love Marty. He had to go to be a number one somewhere else, it wasn't fair to leave him on the bench and he was too costly as a backup.
The Sabs needed to free up money to pay Connolly to keep themselves under the cap. I know we will miss Marty, thankfully he will still live here.
Hopefully Zubrus is a good addition and this is our year. We're beating the Leafs right now even without Briere tonight and the Leafs are really throwing it at us too.
Don't forget Darcy has been brilliant building this team and many of his moves that everyone hated have turned out huge. Let's trust him and wish Marty well---every night except when he plays Buffalo.

Martin Biron is an awesome goaltender. However, Ryan Miller is the new sensation in Buffalo and it was inevitable for him to be traded. I am ridiculously mad at the team he was traded to. Why are the Flyers interested in a third potentially starting goalie? Esche is awesome. Nittymaki is starting material, and now Biron is a maniac at the net. The Flyers have to obtain a defense first! They can't stop from letting goals in! It's not the goalie's fault. Biron deserves better. He should have gone to a team who has a great future and needs that one goalie to complete their team. Ugh!

I am not mad. The Sabres couldn't keep him with the coin he was making this season. Besides he is talented enough to start somewhere else and deserved the opportunity being the great team guy he was with Buffalo. I wish him the best except when he plays the Sabres!
