Thanks for those who helped in my most recent question. I've decided to go to Tokyo, and I was wondering is the Shibuya Excel Hotel was any good? Are there any other good hotels around (Shibuya, Shinjuku, etc.) I should know about? Thanks.

In terms of name brand hotels, the Shibuya Excel Hotel is in a good location and is run by the Tokyu Corp, which is a big conglomerate. Those are both positives when it comes to booking from overseas. The Shibuya Excel Hotel is in a good location quite close to the Shibuya station. Since the hotel is on the higher floors, it helps to keep the street sounds from bothering you.

In Shinjuku, you can try to book at the Shunjuku Hilton and or the Shinjuku Hyatt. We have our overseas clients stay at those two hotels when they visit Tokyo. The costs are higher but the service is excellent.

For a low cost hotels, you can try to book at one of the above mentioned places, then go to a local travel agency like JR Travel or Odakyu travel and ask for a business hotel in Shinjuku. It's ok to ask for lower rates and bargain hotels. The rooms may be smaller and the English speaking staff may be minimal.

Yes! An absolutely great hotel is the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo. You can book a great price on Travelocity. It's easy to find and just a couple of blocks away from Shinjuku station. All of the rooms have been remodeled into a really hip and cool decor and everything is strikingly clean and brand new. You can get a spacious deluxe room for two people for about $200 on Travelocity...When we were in the rooms we noticed they sold directly for $400 a night! Stay there...you'll love it! PS There's also a great free continental breakfast!

You can get to the Hotel from Narita-Airport easily.
This is the most biggest advantage of staying in Shibuya Excel Hotel.

When you take the coach from Narita-Airport to Shibya, the last stop is the front of Shibuya Excel Hotel. The charge is JPY3,000-.
(unfortunately not so frequent.....)

As somenone say, extremely convenient access to train, underground etc.

If you want to experience Japan and the culture better (as you said in your other message) you don't want to stay in a big hotel. Look for a ryokan or something more intimate.
