Reading some of the answers in regard to austin TX I saw someone wrote bad traffic. I am wondering if they can compare it to So Ca. traffic?
Does a couple in their late 40's fit the mix and one last thing. How bad is the humidity?? Does it compare to Atlanta or Maui? So Ca. as little to no humidity so I am going from that stand point.
Thank you.

The traffic can't compare to that of Southern California, but it does rank among the worst for its size. The worst traffic in Austin is traffic trying to cross Town Lake--- so it's best not to live and work on opposite sides of the lake.

Late 40s is a great age (I am 34, but I know many people in their late 40s and early 50s).

The humidity varies. It's close enough to the Gulf that sometimes it can feel very humid. And its far enough away that sometimes its very dry. It's position between the humid Gulf and the dry Northern plain is one reason why people settled here so long ago. It's at the beginning of the Hill Country, so it's also BY FAR the most beautiful city in Texas.

Traffic, while a pain and getting worse, is much better than SoCa.

Compared to SoCa, it'll be pretty humid to you here. We're accustomed to comparing ourselves to Houston, which is much worse. I think Atlanta and Maui are moderately worse. You're looking at a 30% humidity with no breeze most of the summer. The temps get high in the early morning and stay high until after sunset. It's difficult to stand. However, EVERY building, bus, taxi and car will be air conditioned.

Although the average age in Austin is around 30, late 40s fits into the mix. All the universities and colleges have faculty in their 40s. I'm only in my late 20s and I have been in groups of friends whose ages span from mid-20s to mid-50s. I don't know if that's just how things go or if it's a sign of a shortage of people over 30. I do know that lots of residents in their 30s enjoy having friends in their 40s and 50s.

I've lived in Austin since 1998 and I grew up about 60 miles north of here. I love it, but I do feel like it's over-rated. If you want a lot of evening activities, for our size and state we have a lot, but larger cities can serve you better. Great restaurants and local bands, we have that. Great museums and theater--not so much. We have museums and theater, but on a very limited scale. If you want a very laid-back environment where most of the people you encounter have a live-and-let-live attitude, we have that in abundance.

Here's the local weekly paper with the most complete entertainment listings (same publisher as LA Weekly):

In a nutshell, here's my reaction to spending two weeks in Venice, CA, with my family: "Wow, if Austin were a little bigger, a little cooler, had better weather and a beach, this is what it would be like. But at least the traffic isn't as bad in Austin." I felt right at home in Venice and Santa Monica. Travelling in the opposite direction? I don't know.

Nothing compares to So. Cal traffic...maybe only down town Manhattan on 911..... Austin is relatively humid compared to So. Cal... but much better than Houston.... Austin is great for all ages...some crime but not as bad as LA.

I came from San diego ca three years ago....yes the traffic is bad but due to not having enough lanes, plus its constantly growing...The humidity can get to you in the beginning but you get used to it..We get some bad weather sometimes...Pretty strong thunder storms and alot of rain..but these last couple of years has been dry... The hill country is beautiful... Austin has alot to offer.. one of the nicer places to live...if you like city life....Austin fits all ages..As for me country suits me better..
