A while ago, a girl at my school fainted. But it just so happened to be right before a big event at school. She has participated in something similar before, and she has joked around about how she fainted by doing it to herself. I've read about "the choking game" and I've seen people pass out by hyperventilating and holding their breath. Whatever she did, she did it in the public eye, and she did it herself. What could she have done?? This is terribly unhealthy, and I want to make sure she never does it again! I've heard of knee locking for a long time-how would that do anything?

hyperventilating causes your blood to be derprived of oxygen and also caused your heartrate and blood pressure to rise, so in order to save itself, your body causes you to pass out.

locking your knees causes blood to pool in the lower extremities which deprives your brain of oxygen, causing you to pass out

alot of school aged children think this is "cool". when i was in high school (94-97) alot of kids were doing the "choking game" as well-this caused people to pass out and sometimes they didn't wake up on their own and paramedics had to be called.

each time you pass out, your brain is deprived of the oxygen it needs and brain cells die-once these cells are dead, they will not regenerate or "grow" back. long term effects of this could result in permanent brain damage and in severe cases-death

Locking your knees cuts off the blood circulation and causes blood to pool in your lower legs so it doesn't get to your brain. That causes you to pass out. It's seen a 'lot' with military recruits learning to stand at attention.
