Black men seem to not want a woman who makes more than he does. It is harder to find a black man the higher up the ladder or within the higher 5 digit to 6 income range. When it comes to sports, it seems like they go for white women, but not all of them do. Some black men go for white women when he has no income at all. No, corporate America does not drive a wedge. We cannot blame it on that. It is personal preference. Some black men are conditioned to think they are better when they marry or date outside their race. That has nothing to do with it. It is self esteem. How they value their own selves. Black men need to respect black women more and this will raise their self esteem and self image. I get tired of seeing on TV, black men calling black women "hoes" just because they slept with them. It seems to be a belief among them that only a woman can be promiscuous. This race distructive act needs to be stopped.
Leaving us alone to raise the offspring needs to be stopped also.

Acutally, it's hard for ANY professional women, regardless of race to marry...
The reason is b/c a man wants a women who will stay @ home and tend to the kids and his needs..a working woman cant really do this, that's why it's harder for working women to get married, most men dont want to be "taken care" of it somehow strips them of their manhood...but most women would sign up for that...Look @ Oprah, she decided not to get married and have kids b/c she's too busy..
What makes it harder for black women is that we are moving up in the corporate world at a faster rate than black men...and most women dont want to date someone "below" them..like a blue collar worker...Which is covered in the movie I think....I dont think it's corporate america that is the problem...its people and their mentality of having "status"...It's no different than the hoodrats who need to have a coach bag to make their life complete...We should date/marry people who are stable and good to us, not b/c of how many degree's they have or how much $$$ they make.

It sums up to this: The majority of corporate america are people of non-color and the fact is true that some people will relate to those of the same level. Regardless of a person's skin color, I'm not going to be with someone that refuse to do something with its life!

Sometimes black people in the corporate world feel they have to marry white in order to be accepted and to fit in. In most of corporate America there are not that many black people in general so that makes it harder for black men and women at the top to meet. Still the majority of sucessful black men and women that I know are married to other blacks.

i think Corporate America drives a wedge between us. Im going to school to be a forensic scientist. and hope to become successful. but i cant see myself marrying a drug dealer or someone who works at walmart or BK.. no offense to those who work there cuz i love those places. but i think some successful black men are SCARED to date a black woman cuz he thinks shes a gold digger or wtv.
thats a really good question ....a star from me

I live down south and alot of what i see is our black men going toward trailer trash. it does seem that the higher you go in the corporate world the more you see brothers with white women. i honestly think that some brothers are afraid of our strength. We wont take what most white women will. In a nut shell....yes corporate America is driving a wedge!!!!

Good question! I saw the movie too (the ending was quite anti-climactic and disappointing) and I noticed that part. I never thought that it was difficult to find a black man, then again I was never really searching for "a black man" I was searching for "a man" and I found one. But anyway, to answer your question, I can see where she's coming from when she says that.
Black women, or black people in general, who are successful find it hard to relate to blacks who aren't, especially the ones who call them "Sell-outs" for doing something with their lives.
I was thinking to myself during that scene that she shouldn't limit herself to black men because that's silly, men are men, but I guess people are allowed their preferences.
And Cheri, why do you say "our black men"? I don't own any black men. They aren't my slaves. Are they yours?

When I look for a mate, ethnicity is never a factor..whether it be my own or someone else's.That's REALLY not important.
