It is hard let me tell u. but being that im an art student i had to spend 3 hours a day learning to do what u are stuck on. not fun but rewarding. So when drawing the human head/body u MUST start out with a gesture drawing. DO NOT OUTLINE!!! just quickly sketch the VOLUME of the body or whatever without outlining the shape or including details. make sure to include muscles, leave out features until you are sure u have to correct portions. just remember to draw what u see not what u THINK u see. KEEP LOOKING at ur subject. Plus its easier to move a light gesture drawing around the page then an outlined figure. we found that when drawing stay an arms length away so u dont get too close into ur work, u dont wanna focus on one section u wanna draw it as a whole so that is is all in porortion. We found that drawing with out left hands (non dominant) made us look closer at the subject so in turn it made our drawings better. GOOD LUCK!

I am a bit rusty,I don't know of any web sites, but there were several good books back when I was drawing and Painting such as "drawing with the right side of you brain" I can't remember who it was by but within 3 or 4 years I was doing pretty fair copies of da vinci, rembrandt, titian and others of better than fair . the trick as i remember was to open your mind and stay on top of your technique at the same time. You might try drawing features as studies in three inch boxes and building up to larger sizes, this works for physique as well, Anatomy study will help, and placing figures in postures and building up the dynamic of the image will give full pictures much life. For faces try doing studies of busts,(sculpures of faces and neck) many famous artists have done these, and don't neglect still lifes these give energy to your sense of form and teach many new techniques, and they can be accomplished in as little as a minute to several hours. THE most important thing to do is draw and create with commitment and passion for what you do. p.s. you can do shadow studies as part of your building process. When i was beginning i actually had ta start with stick figures for full picures, and build my drawing around the frame. volume sizes, then shapes, and distribution of shapes. then features , then shading and expressions, and detailing. then color matching and shading for painting. it takes cosiderable patience to do figures. practicing with different sizes will give you more skill at rendering later on in your endeavor.
