rockets arent considered championship contenders because they dont win streaks of ten or so and they havent won a championship in about 10 years. with them being in the west with the red hot mavs and the showtime suns, they tend to be looked over. most kids and adults would want to see steve nash lob it to amare for a dunk than the solid defense of the rockets (not that there is anything wrong with that).

if the rockets can get yao and tmac at full strength together and beat teams like the mavs and the suns by 15 points or something, they'll prove that they are a tougher team to beat and the NBA should watch out. after the loss against the celtics their image is hurt.

since the rockets havent gone far into the playoffs too long they are considered good, but not great (they should look at their record!).

tmac is underated because most people like to look at scoring average instead of all-around status. tmac provides a good, steady, 24-25 points a game but hasnt been in the top five scoring for a few years. thats doesnt draw oohs and ahhhs from some fans. if he can have a hot patch of 40 or 50 point games, with amazing clutch 3s and know-look, spinning behind the back layups with and-1s, and the league will know him for what he is: a dangerous scorer.

hope this helps!

I like the Rockets and I actually think that T-Mac is a great player but it's hard to pick them to win the championship. First of all T-Mac has still yet to lead a team out of the first round of the playoffs. Secondly they face such tough opponents in the Suns, Mavs, and Spurs it's hard to see them beating one or all of them to get to the finals.

The Rockets are flying under the radar. As for T-mac I'd take him over Kobe any day. T-mac is the Rockets. He takes such tough shots, its unbelievable what he can do.

its because the rockets have yet to show their full strength. they've been hampered by injuries for quite a while. the world is still waiting for them to be at their best. when they do, they'll get what's due. t-mac is as best as they come when he's 100%.
