OK, I'm a freshman in high school and I want to know what colleges/universities are best for journalism and that I have a chance with. As of right now, I have yet to take ACT (we dont take SATs in my state), and I have all As in my classes but we dont have APs or anything like that offered. These are my activities so far and I'm interested in Northwestern U, UNC-Chapel Hill, and NYU.

Volleyball-2 yrs., Student Council Rep - 2 yrs., Class Officer- 3 yrs. Color Guard - 1 yr., Jr. High Dance Team - 1 yr., Newspaper Staff - 2 yrs., Co-Editor 1 yr., The Tattoo Staff writer-1 yr.

Do you have any suggestions of things I could do to improve my chances of getting into a good school?

You have a great start. You can think about narrowing down your activities and trying to excel in one or two of them. I mean besides being the president of a club. Try and win a state championiship and/or MVP award if you're good at volleyball. Organize a big fundraiser. Stuff like that.

Now, you say you don't have APs at your school. Fine, does it have anything beyond regular classes? Honor classes? IB classes? If not, then take classes at the local community college to show you can handle challenging coursework. Doing that also shows initiative into challenging yourself despite your school not having the resources of other ones.

The only thing I could suggest is doing some volunteer work which would show off even more leadership skills through community involvement, because this will show just what a productive member of society you are and how you would benefit the student body and faculty at any particular school/college you are applying to.

geesh, you're worrying and you're only a freshman?? Well It looks like you're into a LOT of activities already & that's very good, so keep that up. The only things you can really do to imporve your chnaces are look for volunteer work (outside of school volunteering) and yes, it is very beneficial to take AP courses; you say your school doesn't offer them, but this would be to your advantage--earning good grades in these classes and taking the AP exams, even if you don't pass them, looks better on your applications compared to someone who does not take these but earns A's in regular classes. Colleges want to see how you've challenged yourself and how you've withstood such challenges.

Just to tell you, I didn't even really think about colleges until I started my senior year hehe so you've got nothing to stress over now. But just do some research over the internet regarding majors and a school environment you'd like. Good luck.

sure there some faculties in which you will take those varieties of training, yet they are frequently the community college ones. 4 twelve months college ones require a sort, in all hazard funds to stay with, and essays. I had taken a cake adorning classification as quickly as at a community college. And sure, I did meet my better half in school. It became into our freshman twelve months at Michigan State college. we are meant for the different!

My neice went to U of Minnesota and is a correspondent with CBS. In high school she was in "dance line" and I was impressed with it for the coordination and poise. She spent part of her Junior year college in Paris as her minor was in French. Read all the books you can about TV News personalities. Also check with the stations to see if their people will be given speeches at colleges or symposiums or whatever. Spend your vacation time in NYC where there are tours etc., with CBS, NBC, etc. Go on line Google people or wikipedia to learn about these people. Learn all you can now....including experimenting with hair styles and that suit you and perfecting speech.
My oldest best friend majored in journalism but went to a Law School to get her degree (?). She is in PR, very attractive and did well. Good Luck to you...you too can do it.
