Hi Donia,
Writing stories or books for children requires you to think like a
child. Try to look at life as if you're looking through their eyes.
Then you will be in the right frame of mind. Begin writing, using
words that your readers would use--like, say "doggie" instead of
"pooch" or even "canine".
Pick a subject that is interesting to children and is easy to write
about. Keep sentences short and simple, just like children.
Relax, get into your mind-set, let the "kid" in you begin the story.

Why don't you write a story about a small plant which was planted by it's gardener. Which was tied down in order to grow straight, but because of negligence on the gardeners part the little plant grew up crooked.
The gardener planted other little trees which grew up straight except that one little tree. And, at the end when the gardener invited her sister over and was showing off all the other straight trees, the sister was awed by the crooked tree which had been abused from neglect. The sister would say but, that is the best tree of all because it is so different and so unique. As for the other trees they all look the same. This will help other children with their egos. Name it the Crooked Little Tree.

Pick a subject that you feel is important to address to children. For example, fear.

And your story will be how the children should cope with them.

Or maybe create your own fairy tale with mystic qualities.

Or write about the importance of believing in something.

Or write about love and how your family loves them.

Just pick a subject and have your story be about it. Hope that gives you some ideas to play with.

Children usually like lots of sounds in story and well is funny things that happen in a story as well.

Whatever you write about, make sure the story has a plot, setting and good rounded characters. Many children's stories include a moral or lesson that is learned by experiencing everyday activities...like playing with siblings or friends...etc.

Anything with a baby animal that learns a life lesson. Rhyming is good too if you have a talent for it.
