You wait until you're about 18 weeks pregnant, and ask your doctor to check with the ultrasound machine. It's pretty accurate at that age, but there ARE mistakes, so you can only be 'mostly' sure. At around 15-16 weeks, girls AND boys have a protrusion, so you may be told you're having a boy if the doctor looks at that stage...when in fact, you're having a girl.
The only way I know that's darn near %100 accurate is an amniosentesis (needle inserted into your uterus to draw out amniotic fluid). Then they put the fluid into a medium and wait for cells to grow. In about 2 weeks, they can read the chromosomal patterns and give you an XX or an XY. They won't do that test though, unless there is a medical reason...or you're over age 35.

The only sure way is with an amnio. Ultrasounds can be wrong. When my brother and his wife were expecting their first child, they were told that the ultrasound indicated it was a boy. She had a boy shower and they decorated the nursery for a boy. Turned out it was a girl. Same thing happened to a guy in my office.

I know this is an urban myth, but is has worked in my family 3 out of 5 babies...so kinda weird! But they say if you push the skin on your chin together and it makes a dimple then you are going to have a girl. (and i have 3 awesome nieces!!)
But seriously, best of luck on a healthy baby no matter what sex it is!!

While still in the stomach right? You can visit your local doctor and ask for a scan. Although I think you have to reach a certain month, seven months I think before you can actually tell.

Well a fun way to guess is put a ring you wear alot on a chain. Hold it above your belly if it goes on circles its a girl . if it goes back and forth its a boy. Dont belive me hold it above a mans palm its usually goes side to side
hold it above your palm it should go in circles.
not 100% accuret but it is kinda fun.

Just for fun you can go to http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/pregnancy/labour/articles/0,,13_534749,00.html
My best friend and I did it, and we found it to be true. Although, an ultrasound is the practical way to find out.
