What I'm really asking here; is what does it take to be notice as a true artist and is it true that you don't become famous until you're dead? My medium is “Photography Manipulation” and was told by a fellow artist in my new home town, that there is no future in photography art. This has crushed me and I have stopped producing pictures and have turned back to my poetry. Which that too was knocked down stating that there’s no money in that either. So what should I do, how do I become noticed or famous in what I love to do every day?

To get noticed as an artist, you must put yourself out there. Get work submitted to a magazine or local gallery. I have gotten works into local galleries, which has gotten me commissioned for multiple projects. Another example: EB Lewis: had a peice in a magazine and someone saw it and immediatly 9 publishers were at his door waiting for him to illustrate childrens books for him.

There is actually a very promising and very large future in photography, it is one of the biggest and most popular art careers. There is a higher or lower demand fpr photographers depending on where you go and what you focus on photographing. Many magazines, publishing companies, companies, state park services, and Universities hire photographers. If you go to college as a photography and visual arts major, you can always fall back on teaching. That is what most artists do and commission odd jobs on the side.

Well... first thing is to quit giving up because of what other people say. You'll never get anywhere in life unless you get some backbone. Secondly, ask yourself what you want. Is it fame or money? Sounds like money is your motivator so maybe you should look into fields that involve your interests. Publishing, forensics, etc... If you are serious about your art, take having an art show where people can see and buy your work, enter contaests, etc. Check out art dealers, etc. from around your area and learn from them. Your biggie to overcome is criticism. There's alot of that in any artistic field. Don't let people eat at you that way. Good luck to ya!

Donate your art to non-profit causes, local radio shows and who-ever needs prizes to give away. Keep entering art contests too. Hire a publicist, they are full of good ideas to get you noticed.

Ignore the critics and do what you love to do.
