modern day barcelona use to be Catalonia...that is why they have catalan as a nickname

yes, barcelona are based in Catalonia. They are therefore referred to as the catalans just as real are called madrid and liverpool sometimes referred to as merseysiders. however thier nickname is "los cules". Los Culés nickname is derived from the time at Estadio Les Cortes - people would sit along the wall of the stadium watching the match, and all you could see from the streets were their asses.

another bit of quick info on barca. They went 114 years without a shirt sponsor. their current deal is for 3 years with unicef. Unicef pay no money to barcelona. instead barca pay unicef and give publicity aswell. just thought id ad that in
