I got a black ruby barb and a rosy barb. since they are schooling fish, they should be kept in groups of about 5. but 5 of that specific kind of barb, or barb in general? thanks

Ps. If you don't understand what i'm asking, say so and I can re-word it...thanks

Generally speaking 5-6 of the species, but in the case of barbs with very similar body shapes, like the one's you mention 5-6 combined will work.

That will not work. You need separate schools of each species of barb.
