Not legally. There are some groups that practice sharing, but they're small, reclusive, and generally abusive to women.

Only in certain groups, which are generally very quiet about it and hostile to strangers. Women are often coerced or forced into such things, and I think it's very sad. It used to be a Mormon practice, but the Church outlawed in the 1800s. Since then, any Mormon who practice it is excommunicated immediately.

In Utah there is still polygamy not legal of course but still there out in the country. When a person is brought up with these beliefs they do what is normal for thier community just like women who wear veils or burkas, some of them live with polygamy also.

Unfortunately, it still is around. I know of several cases in Utah right now. I think where women join in polygamy is where there is a real shortage of men, or where there is pressure from the parents, or elders to join in polygamy.

Many women enjoy it and see the extra women as sisters. More women, means more support. I don't like the idea of that kind of marriage, but if no-one is forced, then I see it as ok. I won't force my beliefs on anyone, nor should anyone else. But if one is forced, then there's a bit of a problem. I remember one time the govt. tried to take the children from "immoral" homes... Everyone lost their enthusiasm when the saw the distressed parents and children being separated.

I'd like to remind Ms. Monkey that if we ran society this way, we'd never survive. Think about there being no right or wrong because everyone's got their own beliefs. Would this mean that someone could murder me because they believed it to be right? Wouldn't that breed terrorism? My children would eat chocolate all day long until they vomit if I didn't step in and lovingly regulate their food intake. Just because a person is an adult, doesn't mean they always know what's best for themselves. Just because a person associates a practice that is wrong to their religious belief system doesn't make it automatically moral or amoral. It could still be immoral.

Polygamy is good for women. It ensures that the husband won't cheat on his wives. No it's outlawed in the USA.

Well, it's not actually legal. It still happens in the US, but participants keep it as hidden as possible. And women can't "join" it so to speak, but rather choose to be wives of men who are already legally wed. Why would they? They believe that plural marriage is a privilege given by God. It's just part of their religious beliefs.

Yes in Utah! Dr. Phil does specials on these communities all of the time. Usually the women are born into this lifestyle and they know no different. Its a sad situation and I can't believe the government allows this to go on. Its disgusting and those men and some women are pedophiles.

If one man has like 4 wifes, what about the men in your culture who dont get any wifes, assuming that the female male ration isnt magically higher there.
