If I hire a carpenter for a couple days and pay him $20 per hour, what is a ballpark figure to pour 700 sq. feet of concrete slab 3.5" thick for labor and material? I just want a real rough ball-park guess-timate. Assume I work as the the carpenter's helper.

This is a national average price.
To form pour, finish, and strip a 4" slab.

Materials $2.26 per sq. ft. labor $2.13 per sq. ft. total $4.39 per sq.ft. 700 sq. ft.@ $4.39 = $3073. the labor time should be 48.3 hrs. start to finish.

Now do you need sub-grade material sand to screed the bottom of slab before you pour let's say 2" of sand. it's easy to screed.

Materials .11 per sq.ft., labor .05 per sq. ft. total .16 per sq.ft.
700 sq.ft@ .16 = $112 the labor time 1.4 hrs. start to finish.

Now you have a total man hour figure of 49.7 hrs. call it 50, you are going to supply 1/2 those hours if you were a trades man, since your not experienced your hr rate should be different.

The total labor profit for the pour is $1526 for 50 hrs. makes the hourly rate $30.52. Now it' up to you and your carpenter to hash out the rest.

Pouring Cement Slab

Sounds like about 9 1/2 yds. of concrete delivered at about $125.00 a yard. Or roughly $1200 for the crete alone. Then double that for the labor/mat. etc. Concrete needs forms, gravel, mesh and finish. You can help wheel the cement but be certain to have a pro to do the finish. If u get the job done for $2500.00 you got a good deal. PS Carpenters dont know a whole lot about finishing concrete.

its about 9 yards and in my area its about $80 per yard. unless your good at or experenced it will be a tough job for two people. you might want to form it up so you can handle the size of the pour and the skreet. i would get a power trowel either rent one or borrow one. this is to big a area to finish by hand. most carpenters are not concrete finishers too.
below is a site for concrete amount calculator

Concrete 7.56 cu. yd. , Concrete ($640) + Carpenter ($320 , 2 days Max) + Helper(YOU=Free Labor 0) + Materials 2x4 , wire mesh, aggregates and vapor barrier($250)= $1210.00 total estimate for labor/material cost.

Don't hire a carpenter. Hire a mason. Expect to pay around $250/day. They seldom work by the hour. At least two days, unless you do the prep work (grade, rock, mesh, etc.) and build the forms yourself. One man won't do well on a 9+ yard pour. Expect to hire two men for the pour and finish work.
