Astatine (element 85) is the rarest element on earth and there are never more than 30 grams (a teaspoonfull of it) on earth (deep in the earth's crust) at any one time. It forms a decay product of both Uraniusm-235 and Uraniusm-238, and its only isotope Astatine 210 is itself unstable with a half-life of 8.1 hours decaying to Polonium 210 and Bismuth 206.

Isaac Asimov wrote a 1955 essay on large numbers, scientific notation, and the size of the atom, in which he stated that the number of astatine atoms on Earth at any time was "only a trillion". That is how rare it is.

If you are not referring to what backs up the dollar which is gold than it is the Earth's ecology to sustain life. And that is priceless.
