If any of you have read Macbeth, do you think that Macbeth follows his fate or his free will? What are some examples?

It's free will; it HAS to be, and here's why:

This is a TRAGEDY, remember. In order for Macbeth's rise and ultimate fall to be tragic, we have to perceive -- at all times -- that HE is the engineer of his own destructive path.

The thing that trips up many readers, actors, and (sadly) directors of this play, of course, is the Three Witches. The bottom line is this: whatever you want to make of those three -- and they can be just as supernatural as you please -- if, at any point, the audience believes that they are MAKING Macbeth do what he does...the play is no longer a tragedy. If Macbeth is a puppet (if he was "fated" to do what he does) then how can we hold him responsible in any way? He becomes merely pitiable and pathetic.

The Witches insinuate and beckon...but Macbeth makes ALL of the decisions, and he takes ALL of the actions that lead to his undoing. That's free will, and that's what makes for a tragedy, particularly in Shaksespearean terms.

Okay, normally i don't do this, but i'll help you out with your homework. Fate and Free Will both play a part in the actions of that take place in Macbeth. It was fate that put all of the possibilities infront of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. However it was Freew Will that caused the murder of Duncan. The couple had the choice to kill or not to kill. However it was Lady Macbeth's greed that took over. Yes the Witches do fortell all that happens, but if you really pay attention, they don't come right out and say it. For instance, the witches only say that Banquo's heirs will seize the throne, but with the line of succession could have caused that to happen anyway. However, Macbeth in his own insecurities has him killed! The witches also fortell that Macduff could possibly take the throne, but again, that's another possibility that could have just happened. But once again, Macbeth uses free will and has his entire family killed. However, for Macbeth's insecurities and and blood lust, and Lady Macbeth's Greed catch up with them. That old reep what you sow cliche'. It makes them both go insane. And Macduff kills Macbeth and beheads him.
