Try using an eyebrow or thin eyeshadow brush to apply brown/charcoal shadow IN PLACE OF THE EYELINER. It turns out MUCH better looking, more natural, and doesn't smear or come off as easily in water. :]

I hated using liquid eyeliners too as well as stick eyeliners. My friend recommended Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. Its like liquid eyeliner, but a lot more thicker so its easier to apply. It works great! Mac has something like it as well so try bobbi brown gel eyeliner or mac gel eyeliner.
