I have had a feeling in my eye as if something was in it. For 3 days
now. NIght before last I was able to "see" something in the eye, but was unable to get it out. I used an eye cup and flushed it out
several times. I used eye drops, and it didn't help. Today my
eyes started hurting and it feels as if they are sore? I need releif
and I don't know what to do. Would I go to an eye dr, or would
my regular physician be able to help?

thanks!

I am a healthcare provider at an Urgent Care Center......you need to go to one...or some other healthcare center to be evaluated for foreign bodies in your eye or for possible corneal abrasions. Don't fool with your eyes...blindness isn't a good thing.

If something is caught in your eye and you are unable to get it out, it may be time to see a doc. I would see either your eye doc or family doc, whomever will give you an appt sooner. Eye doc might be better, but I'd get help soon. Whatever is in your eye, if it remains there, can cause problems: like a scratched cornea which will affect your vision for a long period of time or you could develop an infection.

i would make an appt with your primary care dr within the next 48 hours. if you need to see a specialist, your regular dr can refer you. most insurance companies require a referral before you can see an eye dr and the copay is usually higher too

make sure to not put anything but water or eyedrops into your eye (even if you can see it-don't try to get it out with your fingers)

your hands carry a ton of germs and you could risk getting an infection if you try to dig out whatever is in there.

if you have any changes in your vision (blurriness, spots, loss of sight) then go to your nearest urgent care or er

It might be a stye, in which you just have to wait out. It should go away in like a week. A stye is a bump on your eye sometimes the bump is red, sometimes it isn't. I suggest you wait atleast a week. Then if it isn't better, then go to the doctor, your reg. physician should be able to tell you what is wrong.

Your primary can probably take care of it, or if you have an Urgent Care facility near by.
