this person sent me a message on aim but this person was away and didnt respond. i clicked it and by accident downloaded it but didn't open it then i notice it was a ms-dos file i have no idea what it was im worried it contained a keylogger or virus but more so of a key logger... i am going to run a virus scan but what else should i do?!!

You're doing the right thing just make sure your virus program has the latest updated dat file. ms-dos file aren't self executing unless it's a batch file then it would have a extension of .bat.

When you did open it did it do something? It could have had a built in execution. Run your program it should catch it. If your pc starts acting up run Trend-Micro Housecall on it from their web site. It's FREE and works well.

Make sure you also check for adware, spyware and trojans and that your security software is up to date.
