I agree. Kids, albeit stupid kids, may look at a violent video game and go, "Oh, hey violence, awesome", but I don't think anyone ever listened to Marilyn Manson and suddenly felt the urge to blow up their school.
Those people have gotta be pretty screwed up already. Its censorship and its completely stupid. These songs, books, films, even games reach out to a lot of people who relate to them, and yet I don't see them spilling other people's guts on the floor.
What we need to do is pay more attention to kids with homicidal tendencies. Oh my God! They're maiming kittens! We have to blame someone before we get done for negligence, poor counselling programs and over crowded schools again...Lets blame it on Donkey Kong!

Haha I think ur hillarious and partly right.
But most of the games are getting pretty graphic nowadays, but even then I do believe us kids have enough sense to know that a movie is a movie and a game is a game. They say we're declining in intelligence but the day a child can't tell the difference between a game and reality is when human intelligence has reached rock bottom.
But if anything don't let like a one or two year old play such a game or watch, I think that kids can be easily influenced at young ages even by a game.

I think you're right to a certain extent. I have the same position when it comes to hip hop music---it's adult entertainment! However the reality is their are a lot of sorry a-- parents out there who use the t.v. and video games as babysitters. our children get exposure to seeing and hearing things before their minds are mature enough to decipher reality from fantasy, and way before morals and values are intact. All I'm saying is we have 6 year olds watching T&A videos talking about they're pimps and playing Grand Auto Theft 30003 Pay Back On Sesame St.. So as long as we have parents who don't parent, this arguement does have real validity.

Mario and Sonic are hardly the problem; it's games with gangs, drugs, violence, prostitutes that ARE a negative influence. Unfortunately the wrong demographic often ends up playing those games b/c there is a lack of parental guidance. It does influence kids - my younger son went into his older brother's room and saw part of a show rated for ages 7 and up and then was going around pretending to kill things - after less than a minute of viewing the show!

I agree, people are always looking for something to blame. It may sound like that's what I'm doing here, and maybe it is, but I happen to believe that I am right. The problem is parenting. Parents mess up their kids who, in turn, mess up their kids and on and on through the ages. It will only get worse. The growth rate of messed up kids increases the same as the regular population. It can't be stopped, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Well, people search for answers because the violence among young people is on a major increase. Of course it's not as simple as 'video games cause violent kids'. There are tons of reasons behind this...and most fingers should be pointed at the adults in their world, in my opinion.
People aren't accountable for their actions anymore. It's always "My kid hit his teacher because he's ADD." or "My kid stole because {white people/black people/Asian people} drove her to it with their {history of slave ownership/rap music/high dollar electronics that we can't afford} so it's not our fault. We need a special program to help our kids."
Um...unless little Johnny has a bonafide mental issue, Sonic (or any other video game) will not drive him to blow up his school.
It's such crap. Parenting isn't a spectator sport. You actually have to be a part of your kid's life.

I think your on the right track, but some video games I find from experience, do wind me up and make me just want to kick some......well you know that feeling right? when your playing Battlefeild 2 or something..... I mean as far as blaming kids and totally bashing video games, Im with you, but there are some games that should be monitered and restrictions should be maintained and in some cases increased for younger audiences.

Never will we stop pointing fingers. Believe it or not, humans are a type of monkey, so it's natural for humans especially younger kids to act out what they see. Parents are looking for an excuse for their kids' actions not be to be thought of wrong by the public. Adults are looking to protect kids from what they classify as immoral.

Most educated adults know that the worst a video game will do is keep homework in the book bag. All the evil video game finger pointing garbage comes from brain washed idealistic Christian groups that don't know their heads from their arshes! They actually believe they're saving the world when they form their nasty little groups to lobby the government to restrict our civil rights and freedom of expression.
