Gordon Brown will not have his way. There is still no guarantee that he will become PM. There's the Milliband Party to deal with and they may very well be gearing up for a take-over of Labour in any fight for the leadership thereof.
Weakening UK links with USA is a bad idea. It has served both nations very well over the years. Why throw out a pair of comfortable shoes?
The UK/US relationship is far deeper than it appears on the surface. Behind the scenes as it were, there is a great deal of co-operation especially in the intelligence field.
Ask yourself, what if Americans decided they do not like us any more? They buy lots of our goods and services. We'd starve.
No, keep it in the family. After all, we have a saying here in England, "blood is thicker than water". Not only do us Brits share a common language with the Yanks, we're also related.
The heart of the Anglo Saxon world is not in England, it is in the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill. Please bear this in mind.
If England should fall, the Anglo Saxon Race of Winston Churchill will live on in America.
"We are two great nations separated by a common language". Winston Spencer Churchill.

I'm from the UK, the relationship between the UK and the USA works best when both great nations have strong leaders, who respect each other and the rule of law. Not some cowboy and a poodle.I am sure after, the next elections the relationship will once again prosper.

We live in the 21st century. Things have changed since 1945. We need a new foreign policy that reflects the new realities of a new century. That reality means ending the so-called "special relationship", which has been one-way from the start, with the UK doing most of the giving in terms of money, giving up markets to US business and laying down the life's of our troops on the altar of American imperialism.

I was reading a website yesterday (an official one) which said that trade for example between us here in the uk and the usa is really good. I f any separation/weakening is to occur its to be blamed on the EU who are screwing our country over with all these stupid damn laws which are wasting our money and causing us to lose all our independence. In 10 years time we'll be a little european blob with no pride left. Id much rather be linked to America than linked to Europe.

England wasn't always keen on serving the USA when they acted in a stupid way. I refer to Vietnam war when MacMillan refused to support L.Johnson and go over there.
I should say that Churchill himself always said that the right stance for England was to be a fair balance between France and the USA.
But, now your behave turns out to be blind toward Bush and you look like his dog in our eyes (French people).
I reckon Brown would be brave and stout pulling English troops away from the Iraqi hell. Let the Americans deal with their own mess.
Come back in Europe and let's build together a powerful army to fight for right cause like Afghanistan or Darfour.
Moreover, I think you will feel safer in your public transport once Brown will have stepped out Irak ...

If Gordon Brown was PM, he would be just as close to the US as Blair. He'll say he won't be, don't believe him.
It's right that the UK and US are closest allies, don't be scared about it. The US and UK have the best people that's why we make the best music. Just because all the other countries hate the US doesn't mean the UK should as well. We should stand by them, and always help them if they need help.

We don't have a special relationship with the US, they take what they want and for some reason we let them. The problem is that there is no counter to the only superpower left and they therefore run roughshot over everyone else. Gordon Brown would be better off schmoozing up to China, India, and Russia, all of who will be very big players in the next twenty years.

We are supposed to be a part of Europe, but we are very Americanised!
I don't think we, as an island, will ever be truly European, nor do I think we will become a state of America!
Maybe we should try and revive the commonwealth!
And go our OWN way!
country of origin, England.
