Osama bin-Laden said this today.

It makes sense if you think about it. If foreign influences would leave the Middle East what do you think would become of it?

any nation has a right not to be controlled or exoploited by another country. in fact we were founded on that principle of independence. as the other person said there have many attempts to control the ME. some would flourish as a whole, others would be controlled by kings, shiek(h)s or dictators. they are a tribal people that in some cases lack education.

1) We could make sure that we don't have any more terrorists growing up there.

2) We could fill our energy needs from someplace else.

Great Britain tried to take over Iraq in 1918. They finally backed out. They failed. Today is a repeat performance. Those people are too wild for Americans or Brits to ever control. The only way to take over would be to drop a major bomb, and then we would hit Israel too. The whole thing has been a rediculous, miserable way of taking over their oil fields. The motive: GREED.

If we would get off of our dependence on their oil, and stop giving them money, they would go back to their old ways of running around on camels. The only reason they have any armaments is because the West has given them the money to buy them.
