Until the 1960's most white southerners were democrats. When democrats pushed civil rights for all Americans, white southerners in the 1970's and 1980's overwhelmingly switched to Republican.

I teach history and I have to tell you that it is really not the case. The South used to be filled with racists that happened to vote as democrats. The South is still filled with crazy racists and they generally vote republican now. It is really a coincidence. It is also a coincidence that many people think that all republicans have money. News flash to the closed minded...it is not always like this, things change all the time, the trend will change in a few years, just give it time.

Have you ever noticed the only ones helping the 3rd world are white while those who destroy the 3rd world are the people who live there. The darks oppress their own people. Well, this is naturally the case. Democrats want to open the borders (especially the Mexican Border sinc ethey want more votes). Republicans want to close the border (there's already over 300,000,000 people in the United States). Racists want to purify the country. In order to do that, the first step is to close the borders. Therefore, Racists tend to be Republicans but the majority of Republicans aren't racist, just fed up with government spending and illegal immigrants.

Many of the public works which Republicans do not feel are necessary may disproportionately benefit people of color.
