Kids/teenagers have to do quite a lot in the first place to get an a.s.b.o. They are the scourge of society, and should have been locked up way before getting that far as a punishment. Whatever someones age, breaking the law is breaking the law and justice should be dished out accordingly. Bring back the stocks, get more prisons, teach the parents of these sh*ts how to behave like proper, respectable people.
Good idea, send them to the army to iron them out, some cases may be just the help they need to break them into proper people. Otherwise don't bother with the free plane ticket to Iraq, just shoot them. Everybody deserves a second chance, sometimes a third, but after that they should put be down like any animal that was a danger to society.

No. I served in the military because I wanted to, as did my fellow servicemen. Why would a soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine want to be fighting along side someone who did not want to be there and was just there to escape jail? I would have a hard time trusting that person with my life, as all servicemembers eventually in some way have to. If they are there to stay out of jail, it seems thet are most concerned with self-preservation and not the big picture. Could I trust someone to stand and fight with me when the tough days come? Hardly!

I will say they need to learn respect and how to behave, but sending them to do that is not the answer. Maybe something like mandatory workif they screw up. Such as the work that could be done to replace all the work illegals do. There's an idea!

As an ex serviceman I wouldn't these people beside my but I think DanUK has part of the answer. But I think the first offence should be at least 6 months with no time off for good behaviour and no recreaction just the radio, they could work on the gardens of the gaol, bed at 10pm.If we made these places hard enough the majority of them would not want to go back inside, you will always get the exception but you could lock them up and throw away the key.We in the UK have tried rehabilitation but it don't work.

ASBO'S r actually pretty tough,if u breech it u face prison and the rate of custodial sentences after breaching is high.
I think youths 12 - 18 should be given upon their first offence a "short sharp shock" in other words a short spell inside a young offenders institution for say 2 weeks to 6 depending on the offence.Trouble is these days it's too easy to get into trouble and the punishments are laughable

yes what a fantastic idea, take kids with little or no respect for authority, anyone or anything, then turn them into killing machines!

I think the issue of kids being so alien that we see them as nothing less than a threat to our very existence is quite sad. I was a spotty faced youth once and not a particularly savoury one at that. However, I got a job and now look at me, a not so unsavoury 38 year old.
yes some kids are pains in the backside, mainly because they are bored.
If we continue to alienate them by saying how bad they are and how threatened they make us feel will just intesify their feelings of isolation.

No - Conscripts make useless soldiers and are a danger to themselves and those around them. History has clearly shown that a professional army made up of those who voluntarily enlisted wins against conscript armies in the vast majority of cases, regardless of equipment or training levels. Vietnam is a perfect example of this. Well supplied, armed and supported US conscripts forced out of Vietnam by poorly trained, ill-equiped and malnourished guerilla fighters.

Instead make anyone on an asbo wear a large sign saying w*nker or something derogatory on it in flashing lights. Put them in chain gangs and make them break up rocks into little rocks and then superglue them back together again using only their own saliva. Just don't send unwilling, ill-disciplined amauteurs to make an already risky and underappreciated job (soldiering) more difficult.

Do you seriously believe that problem teenagers would have the discipline to make an effective military? Even if they were not sent into combat, or given weapons, it is still essential that troops be able to carry our orders in a timely manner. I wouldn't want someone doing the cooking who didn't want to be there, didn't care about what s/he was doing, and didn't follow the proper procedures to ensure that the food served to the troops was safe, properly cooked, nutritious and tasty.

No if they are under 16 or living with parents to the age of 21their parents should be given a suspended prison sentence to keep their children under control.
If the youth breaks the asbo then they should be kept in a secure unit until their parents are released from prison

do you know why the kids are off the rails realy, because to put them back on track requires they are taught the truth about life and the way its supposed to be lived, and who their real enemies are. and that cant be done because our nation is run on lies, if any experimental group got things right and fully informed the kids. they would be hounded into oblivian. The gov havent spent all these long years demoralising our country for someone to come along and speak the truth now.

With the shortage of people in the armed forces I wouldn't trust those deciding who should get the Asbo.
