I have seen a lot of people in this site asking questions about race an sometimes they divide people into white/caucasian, black, asian, latino, mexican, hispanic.
I mean if you are white is because your skin is white color, if you are black is because your skin in black color, if you are asian is because you were born in middle east or because your eyes look different but what does mean for these people being latin, mexican and hispanic?????? latins are green, mexicans are red and hispanics are purple or what?? why some people can't understand that being latin or mexican or hispanic is NOT a race!!! if you are latin, mexican or hispanic also you can be black, white, brunette, etc

For those asking, I am asking this because I am Mexican and I just get mad when someone say "I am half white and half Mexican" like if Mexican was a race or like if we could not be white, black, etc.

First being Mexican is a race.White isn't a race neither is black or asian.A race is a cultural thing and were you come from.I am Mexican, but referring to all the other South American people can be simply put as Latino because Hispanic is incorrect. So it is just latino for the whole community like the white, black,or asian community. It is just how people group other people.Like if your talking about Americans that is different than talking about Germans.Same if your talking about the Mexicans it does not mean your including the Salvadorians your just referring to one ethnicity not all the Latin ethinicitys put together.

Well the first thing here is to make differences and generalizations.
Mexicans are from Mexico, but they belong to that group known as Latinos or Hispanics.
This is a way of the US to make differences between the great diversity of races, cultures, and countries in general that have filled this country.
I dont think it's racist at all, actually it avoids a lot of problems for any kind of tramitations (at school, Immigration issues, at any job, etc). It's just easier not racist.
I'm a Hispanic immigrant, from Cuba, a Latina, and I tell you this way of this government of making differences has helped me a lot in all my tramitations, because when I have to fill a form and I have to specify my ethnic background, I dont have to be looking for white (hispanic, nor hispanic, asian, nor asian) , black (african-american, hispanic, african), can you imagine that??? There are whites everywhere, there are blacks even in France!!!
So, what's the easiest?? Hispanic, that's all, and in my case I dont even have a specific race (as skin-color), I dont!! I have both black and white!!! lol I guess I would write black then right?? But even in that way it would be too confusing.
Can you imagine that, it would be a nightmare to try to identify every single race or skin color in the world!!!

First of all, stop eating paint chips. They are bad for you. I happen to have white skin but I am not white. I am Mexican American. Mexicans are from Mexico. Latinos are from South America. The word Hispanic is a racist term. Do you know of a location named Hispana? I didn't think so. You have just been schooled! Read up on this stuff before you start complaining about it!!!

It's an ignorant thing. That doesn't necessarily mean that the person is ignorant, but that's what it shows.I believe it's easier to classify people into a whole thing, then you actually find out what they are.I mean, then I guess we can call English people, Americans and Canadians white people.Yep, that's what they are. They're all the same to me.People you shouldn't identify people that way, because it makes them look ignorant.I agree with you!

Check out this website on race -
A triangle plot shows average admixture of five North American ethnic groups. Individuals that self-identify with each group can be found at many locations on the map, but on average groups tend to cluster differently.

That's right. But it's easier to hate people if you can label them. Actually, some people say that there is no such thing as race at all. Somebody else would probably be better explaining that than me.
