In the field of avionics and space travel, NASA is the leader with regards to technology, personel, training, etc. It has managed to sustain a huge budget for the past several decades... dispite few real useful developments. This means they have money to keep research and development well ahead of other space-worthy nations, and keep the people they need to implement it.
There are however, other organizations that focus on other technologies that are arguably far more advanced than anything NASA has to offer. Biotechnology and nanotechnology for instance have the potential to rid the planet of desease, famine and poverty. If these problems did not plague our planet, think of how many more resources we could put towards exploring other ones.

The Russians are good in rocketry but NASA has better technology even though is a 20th Century one, NASA is also a place for employment for hundreds of Mathematicians, Physicists, Weirdos and those graduated from aerospace engineering, the variety of their programs is what makes it great, you can find there anything from a trip to Pluto to a love triangle in space, all in high definition and surround sound..☺

Unfortunately, NASA doesn't have the funding to be as advanced as their reputation makes them out to be. They have some pretty advanced satellite technology, but that's mostly done by the contractors. The shuttle is still mostly 1970's technology. Many of the companies that work for NASA have more advanced technology than they do.

Nope. The Russians thought they were, but found out different, REAL quick once their choice of government brought them down. China would like to think so, but only because they have control of so many people barely surviving starvation. That government won't last. Besides, China isn't concerned about space, other than to get more for their over-populated people.

In space stuff? No. I just wish that Jimmie Carter did not give the moon away when he was president.
