The Rocky Mountains extend the entire length of the middle of the state of Colorado. The Rockies contain the Continental Divide, which is the east-west boundary of the United States; i.e., the rivers flow either east or west from either side of the mountain range.

All of eastern half of Colorado is east of the Rockies, extending approximately 250 miles to the Nebraska, Kansas or Oklahoma lines. They are mostly plains and grasslands where there is an abundance of grazing land for cattle and agriculture such as wheat and corn farming. The main cities of Colorado - Denver, Colorado Springs, Ft. Collins, Pueblo and Boulder - are all east of the Rockies.
