How do I adopt a child in NY?

In 5 years I would like to adopt a baby/child. Do you know what is involved in the process in NY? Where do I begin? What do they look for? What are my rights? Do I have to be a foster parent first?

I will do reasearch on it- I like to hear stories of experience

I would find an adoption agency in your area and speak with them about different options...etc. You could maybe find a lawyer as well and ask him for a little advice, cause mostly likely you will need one for all the paper work.
