FIRST OFF A SUPERCHARGER IS NOT UNDER BOOST ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU ARE CRUISING ON THE FREEWAY YOU HAVE NO BOOST GOING IN. THEY BOTH HAVE THERE GOOD AND BAD ATTRIBUTES. TURBOS HAVE LAG OFF IDLE--HENCE THE INVENTION OF TWIN TURBO SET UPS ( ONE SMALL, ONE LARGER.) NHRA TOP FUEL USES SUPERCHARGERS AS DOES MANY OTHER CLASSES IN DRAG RACING. THERE ARE DIFFERENT SUPERCHARGER DESIGN ES. LYSHOLM SCREW WHICH IS THE DESIGN OF THE WHIPPLE AND SALEEN. ROUSH USES A ROOT STYLE WHICH THE IMPELLERS ARE STRAIGHT. THE LAST IS THE CENTRIFUGAL WHICH IS THE VORTEC OR PROCHARGER LOOKS LIKE A TURBO BUT IS BELT DRIVEN. THEY ALL DO THE SAME THING BUT BY DIFFERENT METHOD--I WOULD USE EITHER.

The turbocharger is driven by exhaust gas, while the supercharger is driven directly from the crank, usually by a belt. This difference in drive causes the major division between the two - the characteristic called "turbo lag". This is the delay that the turbocharger spends waiting for the engine to produce enough exhaust to spin up the charger and deliver boost.

Turbo is much more efficient as it is run off of the exhaust of a car. Supercharging is fast becoming a thing of the past as the technology for turbocharging is advancing. you don't have to have a supercharger constantly running as was specified above, you can have a clutch installed so it will only kick in when you hit a certian RPM range.

From what I know turbocharging is better on the high end, the turbo takes time to spool up. Supercharging is better on the lower to mid range. efficiency?? I dont know they'll both drain the gas tank.

Turbocharging kicks in when you need it so it is not there all of the time and has somewhat of a lag to it. Supercharging is there all of the time and instant therefore turbocharging is good for those who need the extra umph but not immediately therefore saving fuel whereas supercharging is on all of the time and uses more fuel

im going to have to say turbo is the latest. all your imports are reaching speeds of 200mph or better and they are not doing it with superchargers.
