Just be honest with him. Just tell him that you've grown apart from him and that you didn't want to lead him on. Feelings always get hurt in break ups. There's no way to avoid it, but don't start a fight to do it. Then you'll end on bad terms and he'll hate you forever. Just have him over, in the privacy of your own place, and just sit down and have a talk with him. Just tell him how you feel, and yes, it will hurt, but he'll respect you more for being honest with him and not leading him on just because you didn't want to hurt him. Plus, you stand more of a chance of being able to stay in touch and possibly stay friends if you end things on a good note. Then, he'll have a chance to see that you two make better friends then a couple.

I don't believe there is anyway tp break up with this guy without hurting his feelings. Honesty is the best policy. Give him a good explanation as to your reasons why you want to break up. Try not to get angry if he becomes upset (it's expected). Just let him know that you respect him and would like to remain friends with him. Good luck!

You could use the "it's not you it's me" line!
