I have a few questions about braces.
1. How long will I have to have them? (I only have an overbite)
2. What's the least visible type?
3. How bad do they hurt?

#1 It depends on your dentist and how fast/slow he adjusts them. I had mine for about a year.
#2. I had the classic metal ones. Then I had the clear plastic overlay thing. But that can only make tiny adjustments. It is not for a full work-up.
#3. not going to lie to you, they hurt pretty bad the first few days as your teeth move the most. Then every time you have them adjusted they hurt for a day or 2. But it is SO worth it to have the great straight smile.......

How long you will need braces depends on the placement of teeth in your mouth. I had mine for two years and then was prescribed a retainer to use at night after they were taken off. They don't hurt badly at all on a scale 1-10 the worst was probably a 2. Why do they hurt? Because your teeth, believe it or not are constantly moving. When braces are applied it is forcing the teeth to move in another direction than they would normally go. The least visible type would probably be invisalign braces which are pretty much clear and they fit over your teeth, almost like a mouth guard (that boxers use) except it is molded to the shape of your teeth. It uses several different molds all of which help move your teeth into the proper spot. However these can be more expensive that the traditional ones (like I had). The traditional type is not bad at all. Either way the outcome is worth any minor discomfort you might go through.

For an overbite, don't they remove teeth? On average, braces are worn for roughly 2 years, sometimes more or sometimes less. It depends on your mouth and dental habits. The least visible type of braces would be Invisalign, but since you have an overbite, I don't think it would work....usually you can only get those if your teeth are pretty much straight. You can go for ceramic brackets that are the same colour of teeth, but up close, they don't look very nice. It kind of looks like you have white rice mashed up against your teeth. I think the nicest looking metal brackets are the Damon 3 systems. They're about half the size of a traditional bracket and they look kind of like little X's. Lastly, yes, it will hurt. It won't hurt when they put the actual braces on, but it will hurt a lot about 3 hours after...when your teeth actually start to shift, so you can just take some asprin or something to help the pain. They might also scrape at the inside of your mouth a bit, but the orthodontist will give you some wax for that. Well, good luck! =)

1) I had them in for 3 years, your orthodontist can tell you for sure how long though, id estimate for you 1-2 years, the better you are at keeping everything clean the shorter the time it will take.

2) On the Cheap range you have clear braces, when you get the clear elastic bands at a glance all you will see is the wires. Then you have these new things that come out and sit over your teeth (I dont know how on earth they work but i kno they cost a fortune) Basically its all about what you can afford, the plain metal ones are the cheapest, folloing clear braces, ice braces and the reall fancy ones that i havent got a clue about.

3) They will hurt the worst in the first week, after about a month you will be completely used to them and you wont even know they are there. Then the only pain is the first day or two after you adjustments.

1. Only your orthodontist can tell you how long you will keep your braces on. Because you have an overbite, they may stay on a little bit longer than for most people.
2. Invisalign is the type that you can't see, but you can only get Invisalign if your teeth are already pretty much straight. Ceramic braces are the next best thing, because the brackets are the same color as your teeth.
3. They hurt after you get them on, and after you get them tightened. If any wires are poking out, that really hurts, too. Just keep your mouth clean and use wax on any uncomfortable areas.
Good luckk!!

1. only your ortho can tell you that
2. well invisalign is the clearest but i dont know if they work for overbites or not. another option is the "clear" braces (the brackets are a white color instead of silver) you can still see them and if you eat dark colors it can stain them.
3. yeah they hurt. i think mine hurt 3 or 4 days when i first got them on and they hurt a day after you get them tightened.
message me if you have any more questions

I wore braces for over two years (from age 10 and a half to age 13). They only hurt after they have been tightened (this lasts for about two days) and I really dont know of any non visable type.

You will probably have them on between 1-3 years. Dont be too worried about how they look. Most everybody has to get them at sometime, and it's better just to get plain silver. They usually hurt pretty bad for the first week after you get them on, but after that they dont hurt they are just kind of annoying.
