I dont know if it is time yet.....but it could be at the end of the year. The Oilers are stupid. Yes, they dont have the money or smyth was asking for too much, but he was Captain Oiler. You do whatever you can to keep him. He has given his blood and guts for the past 12 years.......#94 is a god there and hes an Albertra boy to boot!!! The fans probably will want to stick Lowe on a cross and that will happen if Edmonton cant turn their season around. I give him this year and a bit of next year to see how Lowes trades work out for him, if nothing is better, he will be gone next mid season. This has been the OIlers philsophy for many years, trade away players when they become good cause they cant afford them (guerin, weight, carter, gretzky, messier, brewer) and build for the future. They have to stop doing this. The only interesting thing about all this is if Smyth ends up re-signing with the Oil in the off season. Now that would be something!!!

I don't think Lowe should be fired. I love Ryan Smyth, he's been my favorite player since I was invited into the dressing room at Skyreach Center (Rexall Place) by my cousin Dean Mcammond, you may remember him, and introduced to this big nosed, long haired kid who was the first player to autograph my hockey stick. You're right, he was the heart of the team for the players, the face of the organization, and the adopted son of every Edmontonian who ever watched him play. I won't defend the trade or try to justify it, but it's done and we got some promising young talent out of it. Kevin Lowe did a lot for this team too, and he can't be given the boot just yet. Smyth becomes a free agent in July and we all know that he loves this team. If Lowe can strike a deal with him then, give him the 5 million for five years, then maybe we can have Smyth back, plus the talented young kids we just got. Don't count Smyth out yet, let's keep our fingers crossed and maybe he'll come back.

Kevin Lowe commited a nessisary evil in procuring and merchandising Ryan Smyth. Smyth replaced into stressful approximately 6 million funds with 20 minutes left earlier the commerce cut-off date. If the Oilers had no longer traded him, he would have been lost by way of loose corporation this summer time. Lowe made the terrific deal he would desire to for the way forward for the gang. Smyth is a great participant, yet he's no longer nicely worth over 6 million funds. he's an All-famous individual yet he's no longer an elite style of participant. he's a no longer ordinary worker and could be neglected however the Oilers did no longer ned to be paying him 6 million a 300 and sixty 5 days nonetheless whilst he's 36. Lowe heavily isn't fired. 80% of followers understand this commerce and agree it fairly is for the terrific.

As a Flames fan, I love it. But, yes, I do think Lowe should be fired. He hasn't really done much for the team since he got there. Smyth will not re-sign with Edmonton in the off-season. I think there's just too much hatred between the two sides now. Give it up Oiler fans, Smyth is gone and you can't do anything about it. He's just gone the way of Gretzky, Weight, Pronger, Guerin, Messier, Coffey, etc.

It was a good trade. He is setting the Oilers up to be a better team next year instead of hanging on to a near impossible chance for this year.

Odds are Smyth will be back in Edmonton next season.

Not much Lowe can do. They couldn't agree to a contract extension, so they ended up getting 2 former 1st round picks and I believe a first rounder. That's amazing, considering hockey doesn't have any insurance policies, which compensates teams with draft pick (baseball awards a pick between the first and 2nd round to teams that lose a young player VIA free agent while football awards 2 first round picks if a franchise player signs with another team).
Edmonton is 10 points away from a playoff start, and are going nowhere with their poor defence. Smyth got to be with a contender, even though I think Dipeitro will cool down.

I can't really say, my team is in the East and I don't see a ton of Edmonton--but as an Oiler fan I would sob big tears over Smyth's departure.

I don't know how the Islanders pulled it off, but it was the deal of the year I think.

I believe that Smyth will sign with the Oilers in the off season anyway. What's the point of firing a decent G.M?

I was upset with the trade but I think we all need to sit back and take a deep breath. I think Ryan is just a rent-a-player for the Isles and that Kevin will re-sign him in the summer. If not THEN fire him!!!! :-) Just kidding. He's too good of a GM to let go.
