Yes. Without a working alternator constantly recharging the battery the car will run on the battery until it can no longer provide sufficient current to keep it running.

If the alternator is not charging then you are running off the battery voltage and you won't be doing that long, especially at night with the lights on. Get it fixed, soon. Or make short trips and buy a battery charger.

Yes. If the alternator's shot the car's running on the battery alone, & the engine needs juice for the ecu/management system, not to mention the spark plugs, fuel pump, injector relay etc.

im no mechanic, but ive had the alternator go out on 2 vehicles. when it goes out, it forces the battery to act as the alternator thus draining the cars electrical power in a matter of minutes, causing the car to cut out and eventually die. id suggest u get a new alternator muy pronto amigo.

is your battery warning light on constantly?
if your alternator fails this is your first warning sign, once the engine cuts then it should not start again due to no charge entering the battery.....if your engine is starting again after a cut out then look further afield as there is obviously charge getting to the battery.
is the engine running as smooth as it should?
if not then there could be a number of reasons for it cutting out, a short (arcing) on one of the leads is common

all of these newer cars require 12 volts to operate properly, the computer and all the other electronic functions so if the alternator isn't working properly you are not getting the 12 volts from the battery that you need to run these things so consequently your car is going to run like crap if it runs at all.

You will lose power gradually, not just cut out all of a sudden. Your lights will fade out, radio will stop working, then your car will lose power and speed.
