I'm very sorry you lost your brother...that is a tragedy. I am 43, so I've been aware of AIDS since the beginning. Thanks to the media, unfortunately, it was made to appear that AIDS was a "gay" disease. It is a fact that the majority of those infected with HIV/AIDS are heterosexuals. I have lots of gay and lesbian friends, and not one of us has HIV or AIDS. We are all safe.

What happened to your brother was terrible. But, in all actuality, the two largest groups and the biggest minority groups in regards to AIDS happens to be The Hispanic and African American cultures. It is also quickly growing in the heterosexual American American male group and in women, too. The gay group is no longer the number one group for the illness, and who cares. It is a human disaster, not a black or gay one or female for that matter. Your facts are outdated. Also, the gay community is now the group that is doing the most to prevent the lethal catastrophe, we are the first in this culture to truly promote protection. More straight women and African and Hispanic males have it. It is no longer the 80s. Times have changed. These are all facts.

thats funny i have been gay for well over 40 years and im very health. on the contrary the young stright society is the most at risk group. the gay community has been aware of aids long before it was even a popular topic and therefore have been the most safe sex group out there

First, you need to check your statistics. Second you assume too much feeding sterotypes. I have lost quite a few friends to the AIDS pandemic, from every socio-economical background. Why would you assume that anyone is promiscuous and does not value life by assuming the responsibilty of safely engaging in sexual activity? I think that you do your brothers memory and life injustice by posting such a question, actually back-handed social commentary. It is ignorance and intolerance that keeps the virus thriving...... perhaps you should concern yourself with community outreach or volunteerism and see whom is the highest risk subculture. This virus should not separate, but bridge the gaps, we are all of the human race.......... why not embrace humanity and social blights and stigmas. simper fi.

That is a really nice message, and I was an adult in the 80's buddy and also for you information, there are a lot of stright people spreading the disease too but you are right everybody needs to use protection and also be tested if they are sexually active.
I am a straight woman that didn't appreciate the "long before any of you were born" for you infromation yahoo isn't only for young people and in am in for early 40's

Honey, I was around way before the dreaded "gay man's disease" made itself known.
No statistics for numbers have been proven. What has been proven is that EVERYONE needs protection.
I'm sorry for your brother. I am hoping that education for everyone can be a help to stop further infestations of AIDS.

Honey I was born in 1971. I am sorry about your brother dying of aids, but you have to get your facts right. Aids kills as many men and women, straight or gay just as much as it kills gay men.
People have unprotected sex because they don't think when they are in the heat of passion. But you are right about one thing, people need to use protection when having sex.

Soooo sorry you're working out of gas. i'm in the comparable boat, and that i nonetheless could desire to write a tale and examine for sophistication. i became right into a toddler of the '80s, yet i'm no longer able to assert what the philosophies have been. possibly it became into the shortcoming of philosophy that mattered. Does absolutely everyone be responsive to while a majority of those parenting magazines got here approximately? it form of feels that in the time of at present's society (and that i think of the internet is a huge area of this), absolutely everyone's have been given an opinion on how each and every thing needs to be performed. while i became into becoming up, it in simple terms looked like we had old-international values: Do your homework. Be impressive to human beings. permit's communicate approximately different stuff. I in no way heard absolutely everyone discussing parenting practices. i think of adults have been extra concentrated on working and stuff. We did no longer have as plenty disposable earnings, yet protecting up with the Joneses wasn't as huge-unfold the two. human beings did no longer seem to could desire to have flashy autos and stuff. absolutely everyone's first vehicle became into the solid-off family contributors stationwagon. Siblings had to share it. Stuff like that. nicely, that would not appear like each and every help in any respect, yet stable success!

Whats even sadder is that there are actually groups of people who infect themselves with AIDS on purpose so they wont have to worry about it.
I saw a report on that on the news. I must have sat in stunned silence for 10 minutes.

I was born in 1945. Anyway, I have a good friend who's son just died of a disease that AIDS would not allow his body to fight. He was a homosexual and certainly knew of the dangers. Who knows why people do the things they do???
