Do you think that it is fair that my mom won't let me go to an anime convention in boston during april? my friend is moving next year over the school vacation and we really wanted to go before she left. the only reason my mom wont let us go is because of the money part. getting into the convention doesn't cost alot its the hotel part that costs alot. the hotel room is 179$ per night and it is for three nights.
Do you think that this is fair at all?

Not sure if it's fair or not, but my old neighbor went last year and had a great time,as long as you remember why you are there and follow the rules, and go with someone you know and can count on. It can be a good and educational experience. However you don't mention how old you are, and that can make a difference.

Try and find a way to earn the money for the room for the both of you. I'm going to guess you're a young-ling and don't work? Your mum pays the bills and has the right to say no. Sorry. Maybe get a part time job wiping tables or something like that between now and April.

There would have to be a cheaper hotel than that to stay in.

If you mum has to fork out the entry fee plus the hotel costs, I think she does have to right to say whether you can go or not. If you are contributing to the costs, then you have more of an argument. Look for a cheaper hotel, and instead of getting two single beds, get a queen and sleep together. That might save you a bit of cash too.

$179.00 a night ? WOW !
Yes, I think that your mother is being fair. Why should she
absorb the cost ? Can she afford it ?
Try getting a part time job after school, or even babysitting. You have a whole month to go.
Maybe if you come up with most of the money, she might let you have the rest.
Good Luck.

Is the money part the only reason she is saying no or is there something else that she is worried about? Talk to Mom. Maybe there is a way that you can work this out.(help to pay for it.) If the money is not the real reason she is saying no and she is worried about you being gone maybe you could agree on a trusted adult to go along

Take into consideration that it would be $537 plus extra money for souvenirs and stuff. Yea that is a lot of money. Why don't you just go on a little vacation with your friend and have fun. See about earning money around the house and neighborhood. If you get to go, have fun. If not, have fun anyway. I wanted to go somewhere once and it would have costed & over $300. I couldn't go, but I had fun staying at my friends house. Hope your friend has luck at her new school. ~Shelby~

Well.....since I don't know your age it is kind of hard to answer.
In my opinion....it sounds really pricey to me...Maybe if you can do some odd jobs or raise some of your own money, she may be a little less strict about it.
If you are really young,I do agree with your Mom..I have raised teens......so I can relate. Even tho your Mom wants to do whatever she can for you........that may just not be in the budget and if that is the case.....I see her point..........♥
I am sure that you won't agree with my answer...but earn some money yourself and then see how she responds.......

It's somewhat fair. If you can raise your own money, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. The problem is that your parents don't have the money right now...you need to accept that and make your goals as a teen according to that- not ignorance.

Yes. There is more cost than just the room. It's an old adage, but it does hold true most of the time "listen to you mom, because mother's know best".

yeah, it is fair... that is a lot of money to spend on you to go to this convention. Your family just may not be able to afford the hotel accomodations, sweetie.
