Well, if she's ready to assume all the responsibilities of an adult, since she might want to look like one, but I guess a simple lip gloss will do.

I think that there is no right answer to this question. It is obviously one that will need to be discussed between mother and daughter. It is a big step toward womanhood, and it is definitely not something that should be done behind mom's back. I will tell you this, however:
When I was 11, I wanted desperately to wear makeup, but my mom wouldn't let me until I turned 12. So, I compromised and waited until my birthday, and I got some blush and some tinted lipgloss. I immediately ran into the bathroom to put it on, and when I did, I realized that the blush I put on didn't really look any different from the natural color I had from being out in the sun that morning. Of course, I kept wearing it for a few weeks until the novelty wore off, and I just got tired of keeping up with it. From that time until my senior year in high school, I rarely wore makeup, except for special occasions. Even now, in college, I probably only wear makeup a couple times a week. I know you don't want to hear this, but makeup is designed to replace what years of life have taken out of you, and since you are still young, you still have a lot of natural beauty. Don't be afraid to embrace your own face and show the world how beautiful you naturally are, but if you feel like you need to wear makeup, that's something you should discuss with your mom.

12 year olds don't need to be wearing make-up. Maybe when the 12 year old turns 13 I would let her wear lip gloss and some pressed powder. But until the girl is like 15 she doesn't need to be wearing anything more than that.

When you're 12 years old you are in 6th grade right? It seems okay; thats when I started wearing makeup just don't let the 12 year old go overboard. Makeup doesn't hurt... maybe a little blush and a tad bid of eye shadow? nothing too drastic.

I think it depends on the maturity of the girl in question, and not her age. Is she going to abuse the privelege and walk out the door looking like she's on her way to star in a Broadway show, or can you rely on her to keep it appropriate and simple? Her reasons for wanting to wear it are probably important, as well. Some girls develop acne around that age, and if she wants to wear pressed powder or liquid concealer to cover that up, I'd say go for it. But if she wants to appear more "attractive" to the opposite sex, I'd say that's more risky, because she's more likely to attract attention from guys of all age groups (not just her own) if she's wearing make-up and sticking out.

No, I think that make up is mostly for looking better. until you're over 30 you don't need it. However, something light once in a while can't hurt. BUT not for a 12 year old!!

depends on what kind of makeup we're talking about here!lip gloss?Or a full on face??Sometimes if you give-in a little(like w/maybe just gloss & powder),it'll feel like parent & child are both "winning".
