I have no intentions of joining the mob i assure you, im just an enthusiat, but the question always crossed my mind. I mean say this guy is named johhny jackson or something non italian, and he changes his name to say robert falconi or something italian sounding, how could they tell he wasnt italian. I mean, do they do a backround check, i doubt it, or do they have some other mysterious way of knowing. I honetly doubt the mafia checks the backround of every prospective member. They dont ask you for an id, so couldnt you just lie.

I understand how la cosa nostra works, but thank you anyway, thats not my question. I was wondering, considering there were the right circumstances, connections, business and trust with the other members, ie you were a stand up guy that could be relied upon and was well liked, i am baffeld by the fact that some men before becoming associated with the mafia didnt change their names so that one day in the future they could become made. There could be something im missing here, but it seems that often the mob connections are informal, such as becoming friends with a local mafiosi, etc and doing work for them. If they knew you on a personal basis and you told them you were 100 percent italian, what would pervent you from becoming made? Again this question is purely as result of my fascination with the inner workings of cosa nostra.

Its quite baffiling to me why some one couldnt be born to say egyptian or romanian or watever parents, change their name, cut off all links to their family through watver means, become associated with the mafia and be made. Considering the name was changed early on. How could they ever know that you werent of sicilian descet if your name was michael perello or any name of that sort. I ask the question becasue through my reading and researching i have seen countless men associated with the mafia that had jewish blood or irish or wat have you not get made. Henry hill for example, why could he have adopted his mothers last name and disavowed any relation to his irish father and claim his real father was killed or something. I guess my question is, how could the upper echelons of the cosa nostra really know?

I guess you have watched too many movies and read too many books. If I've well understood yr very long question and following comments it seems you are convinced that the Mafia (being Italian I cannot speak about other mobs of which I'm totally unaware) enlists people without any background and in a few case also foreigners. You're wrong, it isn't so. The Italian Mafia or let's say better the different branches of the Italian Mafia (Sicilian Mafia, Neapolitan Camorra, Calabrian 'Ndrangheta and Apulian Sacra Corona Unita) are basically admitting just people of their region, of well known families or otherwise introduced by somebody well known by Mafia's bosses and swearing on the candidate's real identity. No way they can accept, as instead you state, people without a well known origin as they won't take the risk of possible infiltrators. It's a very close world and be sure that all of them are adopting any possible measure to avoid unexpected problems....!!

No

You could try the Russian Mob.I'm not sure about them.

This is a pretty dumb question.
No mobster ((probably the most reliable in this situation))
would answer this question. You gotta have some 'ties' between the Mafia to know you can be trusted and stuff. Entering 'the Family' isn't something you can just decide to do. You people know NOTHING about this(unless you have history in the Mafia or family in it..Not like you would know). But even if you could "get made" and "join" you couldn't talk about it. That's probably why you would want to join. To brag. If you did you would be killed. That would be unloyal.

Once you enter 'the Family' you can never get out. It's not all that cool.

Do some research.LoL

It won't seem cool then.

Edited to add:

Believe it or not 'They' do do a background check. They have their way of doing things.

And covering them up.

If you are talking about the Mafia, you have to have a history with their "family" in order to be in their society. I have an "interesting" side to my family, I know the answer to this question. The Mafia family is one of unspoken tradition, "entering" into the family is not done on a whim or by chance.

It's not like some gang you get into. It's all about the family, so there is no way around it.
