We test for H2 gas with a burning splint. If H2 is present in the test tube you will hear a "bark" sound as the O2 mixes with the H2 at the mouth of the tube and they ignite.

It is really more like the "yip" sound a small to medium sized dog makes. To get a good deep bark like a German Shepherd you need to use an extremely large test tube.
