If you don't think so, who would be better?

Yes they were and, as a couple of answers already pointed out, it could have been so much better!

They didn't break the record for Olympic dominance, since they only won by 44 points/game...the record average victory margin was set by the 1956 team led by BIll Russell..that team won by 55 pts. per game.

But the 92 Dream Team had the ultimate blend of power and experience.

Just to show the extent of brainwashing regarding Jordan's position on this team, I should point out that Jordan was the WORST shooter on the team with the exception of Laettner... here are the FG percentages of the members of the Dream Team at Barcelona:

Barkley .711
Malone .645
Ewing .623
Mullin .619
Pippen .596
Drexler .578
Robinson .574
Johnson .567
Bird .521
Stockton .500
JORDAN .451 (includling 21% from 3 pt land )
Laettner .450

The record for highest average margin of victory COULD have been broken by that team, except that Jordan took too many shots... he took 113 shots in the tournament, 36% more than any other player on the team (Barkley was 2nd with 83, except he made the vast majority of them). As you can probably guess, Barkley was the team's leading scorer, with Jordan 2nd.

Jordan's horrendous shooting brought the team down... Had Jordan left the shooting to the hot hands, instead of playing for his own stats, this team could have won by 55-60 points per game.

But yeah, they are no doubt the greatest team ever assembled. And Shaq would have been a far better choice than Laettner, if they HAD to pick a college player.

Other pros that should have been on the team instead of college-boy Laettner include Dominique Wilkins and Isiah Thomas (Thomas of course, was passed over for the team because Jordan didn't want to play on the same team with him).

Absolutely yes. They destroyed EVERYONE and despite the talent, there was little room for egotistical crap from those guys. They represented the PEAK of NBA athletic quality.

I mean, c'mon....look at that roster. And to have them actually play well together? Nobody stood in their way. Had that team been frozen and only brought out every four years for the olympics, they'd still stomp every other nation on earth.

The only exception? Adding Laettner to the team. What the hell was that? It's like they had to add some obligatory chink in the armor of an otherwise invincible team.

The dream team with Michael Jordan that won gold.Yes they had everybody. They had the post-up guys, shooters, the deliverer, and all these guys stepped up and made crucial plays.

The suppose "dream team that keeps winning gold" overall had no post up players. They all had shooters. They dont make the big shoots. All they try to do is get on the highlight reel with crossovers and dunks. Thy make crucial turnovers.

They did have to pick a college player or one that had just been drafted . Even today the mens national team has J.J. Reddick and Adam Morrison for the same reason.

Yes and if they had of taken Shaq over Laettner they would have been even better. Isn't it scary knowing the best team wasn't the best it could have been?
