Sanyika Shakur - Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member


This book gives a detailed look into the growing rate of crime and gang activity in Los Angeles in the 1970's. Sanyika Shakur speaks of a raw and grizzly life South Central, Los Angeles by giving details of his own personal life and accounts of a Crips gang member. I felt this book portrays a picture that no other book would show. I would recommend this book because it shows why a teenager would join a gang and why people should fear them. At the end of the autobiography, this ex-gang member even displays how he tries to keep the violence out of his own neighborhood for the sake of his own children.
