i have an 1862Indian head cent and i was wondering if it is an error coin... on the back of the coin were it says one cent some of the coins surface is missing in the shape of an X on both sides the edge of the coin's surface is pushed down making the coin's surface bumpy is this coin an error coin.

As was stated, it is not an error coin but a coin with damage. Being from the Civil War era the damage could have been done by a soldier, which over time would look old and blend in with the coins surface. To bad the coin could not talk, it may have an interesting story too tell.

This is not a error coin, it sounds like coin that has been used and abused over time. Without seeing the coin it maybe was once used in jewelery. This could explain some of the damage.
