Obviously break, but keep an eye on how close the car behind you is, and maybe swerve instead. Each situation is different

If someone hits you, it's their damn fault for tailgaiting

NEVER EVER EVER swerve... and if there is a car behind you don't break (and you need to assess this before you break... which often means there won't be time to break anyway)... unless the animal is large enough to hurt you by hitting it (i.e. don't hit a moose... you're better off getting rear ended).

I had a passenger grab the wheel once when a kitten was in the road.. I freaked out on her so bad... I actually struck her arm instinctively when she went for the wheel... IT IS DANGEROUS

It may sound cold... but I'm worth more to me than a cat is... I WON"T put myself at risk to protect any animal.

And for those that say the car behind you has to give assured clear distance.... what does that really matter if you get hurt. They may have been in the wrong... but you're still hurt or dead.

If you brake and get re-ended or otherwise cause an accident you will be ruled at fault! Put it this way, although I hate the thought of hitting an animal, hurting or killing a human is even more horrible to contemplate.

Tell your brother he is full of it. If you have braked for an animal on the road and the person hits you from behind, the person was travelling too close. It is against the law to be so close that you cannot stop in time.

And yes, you are suppose to brake for an animal crossing the road.

You shold never run over an animal or serve. What yo shold do is check if there is a car right behind you if so, slow down as much as possible. if not slam on your breaks.

Since I clearly love Animals.....and even sometimes like them more than humans lol, I would have to break or swerve out of the way if I weren't going to harm another driver in the process.

Sadly yes, but possibly avoiding the animal is best!!! How would you feel, seeing a big honking thing roar up to you and then not being able to move because you are so terrified? Also, I believe that because we created roads, cars ect, we have to be responisble for what we may be harming with their construction...

It's really either the animal dies or the occupants in the car dies. Why cause an accident and involve many other people to boot? If you can, try to avoid it, but if you can't, then you can't. It's either them or me.
