My wife wants to drive her MoT failure car, obviously she has no insurance either. And it's road tax has expired. She is a learner and wants me to teach her in it.

But out of interest what would happen to me and to her if she was caught?

If no accident happen, then you only would be fined with a stack of tickets. If by the time u get caught, u just pretend that you don't know anything about these stuff. Just pretend to be an idiot.
From what you mentioned above, price will be vary from state to state. In my state, the fine should be around $500, and she will resulted a delay in getting her liscense, or suspended from driving.

your wife would be pulled over taken to the police station stripped of her lenience and fined. but you the husband can play as if you knew nothing about the car and it's business go home and get some peace in quite while your wife at the station for a day. Then go to the station and get your wife she will be forever in your depth then every ones happy you had a peaceful non nagging day and your wife's not in jail
