HEY dont get misunderstood but this is for a special science project, cuz i already bought both brands of pencils ... Anyways, just wonderin` which has a better quality of graphite core - PENTECH or STAPLES pencils? if theres a way you can tell the difference fo the quality of graphite core, please post! ty ty <3333333

As a rule, with artists supplies (like most things) you get what you pay for. Cheaper pencil leads are mixed with polymers to make them less breakable, but that's not what you want in a drawing pencil. A good graphite pencil will give smooth, even coverage without having to use much pressure. The more pressure needed to make a mark, the harder the lead is.

But depending on the application, you may want a lead that lasts longer, does not smudge, and leaves a lighter mark (architectural drafting, for instance.) However, for sketching, a softer pencil is better - the point will wear down faster, but the lines smudge nicely to give good shading gradation and you get a good deep black without the surface becoming too shiny.

Not having tried either pencil, I couldn't give an opinion - but the info above should provide some guidelines for you.
