I'm an Accessory Designer and working at a small company for 5 year right out of college. I have been trying to find a job with corporate company but every time not success. Most of the time from all HR said my experience is not with big corporate. With my 5+ years experience I would of be senior designer at some corporate if I were working at a well known company. I feel trapped. I recently had phone interview with a well-known company that I love. However, I was interviewing for designer position but they want me for assistance designer and that only offer half of what I'm making now. I know it would be a good move for career but bad for $$$. Any idea? What should I do? Please help.

I have also moved from small companies to large ones and taken a step down. sometimes it's what you have to do for growth opportunity. I would just let whoever was interviewing you know that you are purposefully taking a step down b/c of inexperience in a large company but that you would like to grow in this company faster than what is the norm due to your work history. If you plant that seed in their head, you'll be the one to watch for at promotion time. good luck!!

If you can live on the lower salary and don't mind the job title (assistant designer), and you really want to work for the company, take the job. You said it would be good for your career. Which is more important to you, the money or working for that company?

Also, having a large corporation on your resume will help you in future jobs.

The most important choice we make is what we choose to make important.

Alot of times HR expects you to try to bargin for your pay. You have to see if you would be able to get by on the pay. Also you may have to worry about the economy slowing this year, and a new job in a slow economy isn't a good thing.

You must craw before you can walk. If you are as good as you say, management will not overlook your skills. Go in there and EARN your respect and help improve operations.
