i work in a supermarket and after 7 long years as a checkout operator, i fancy a chnage, going into banking.

how do i write out a letter to the bank manger, asking if any possible vacancies are avaiable?

is it right my name and address goes on the right hand side and the bank address goes on the left hand side?

how shall i write out the main body?

Almost all banks recruit temporary staff through agencies and then take the cream of the crop onto contracts, then make them permanent. Canvass the agencies first.

You can't get a job like this!! You have to send in your CV. But yes on the covering letter your name goes on the right and the bank's name on the left! In the covering letter you can just write something along the lines of:

Dear sir/madam, I am writing to you to enquire whether or not you currently have any vacancies... Then go on to briefly describe your skills/attributes - preferably ones that are not included in your CV. Then go on to talk about why you want to work in a bank. Then just end with something like thank you for you time, and I look forward to hearing from you. Remember to keep the covering letter short (approx 3/4 of a page long).

Dear Sir

After a long career in another financial field, I am motivated to write, asking if you have any vacancies for an interview in connection with the advertisement place in the Courier last Thursday.

You will be pleased to know that I have no Criminal Record, am a personable individual and very accurate with figures.

I look forward to hearing from you and assure you of my prompt attention to your letter.

Your very sincerely,

Just tried to move your address and the date over to the right side and it shoots over to left so make the necessary adjustments!

Please be clear, what do you mean by "checkout operator"? Are you into logistics, operations, store clerk, cashier? The word "operator" carries many different meanings so I am not sure how to help you market your skills. Again, please be clear.
