I think people do care about people. But only the people they care about, It's probable that it's down to trust. Society today have become very materialistic and needy and greedy, It's what they need and want and to hell with anyone else. They need to trust someone before they accept them.
But remember 7/7 bombings in London, It was there you seen that not all people think about themselves, even the walking wounded were helping the more seriously injured people, it's situations like this that you see, love of human life and the need to save that life no matter who the person is.

Its the way of the world, to have a friend in need these days seems to be a pain in the butt, but I care so there are a few of us left, I care about all people, old included after all I will hopefully be that old person trying to cross that busy road on day.

Capitalism is a fast answer. We have become so hypnotized by the need to make money that we have little social concern. Even if we do care about others we never do anything to help them because we don't want to spend the money or "waste our time." Also capitalism and Liberalism are individualistic and make us believe that if someone has a bad life then they should fix it themselves. It's all messed up.

I think this more of a matter of fear then anything else. We're designed to care and we're designed to be in relationships, however I think many of us have experienced so much disappointment and pain in a variety of types of relationships that we close ourselves off to one another. I think the solution to this is never stop forgiving and always give people the benefit of the doubt, most likely they are hurt too!

Because they're too busy trying to outdo each other and haven't the time to see beyond their own social climb, some actually think they're middle class while living on the edge of a council housing scheme in a £60,000 box. .

Because people have lost the ability to imagine what it would be like in someone elses shoes. They have forgotten the old saying about treating others as you wish to be treated. People have become selfish.

Because they are not sufficiently well-trained to. They are trained to want, though. Like big two-year olds. You can train a child to care, and think about others.
