We took a flight yesterday and part of our luggage was left behind at our departure airport. It has been over 24 hours, and they say they will deliver it, but it still has not arrived. Are we entitled to compensation for the inconvenience, and how do we ask for it?

There are no laws governing the airlines in regard to cargo. Whether it is your suitcase or scooters or flowers being delivered to a retail shop or anything else there is nothing the airline has to do for you. Some will offer you something for the inconvenience. Most will not unless you ask for it and even then it is about a 50% chance that they will do anything for you.

If you want to try to get something you need to speak with a supervisor (calmly). Lay out the facts explaining how it was the airlines fault and how it interferred with your trip (i.e. you had no clean clothes to wear) and ask them if they would please compensate in some way. If you begin screaming acting rude expect nothing in return other than the airline stating that you now have the suitcase.

Good luck!

like what...monetary compensation....what makes you think you are...maybe you could ask to be reimbursed for expenses if you had to buy clothing, toiletries or whatever to tide you over till your belongings arrived
